Information & Technical Detail s of Fireplaces & Mantels
Our
Range of Fire Baskets
Our comprehensive range of functional and decorative fire baskets
come in various sizes and styles, including traditional, period
and ultra modern, to suit most types of fuel including solid fuel,
log burning and gas, to complete that finishing touch and create
the ultimate homely feeling to your room. All Baskets that are shown
polished are available in black.
Discolouration
Please note that polished surfaces may change colour after prolonged
exposure to heat. Polished brass and cast iron items especially
are not recommended for solid fuel fires as some discolouration
will occur. For this reason, please select a black finish for solid
fuel.
Coals
& Pebbles for Gas Fires
Decorative fires can be supplied with pebbles or coals, though coals
come as a standard and pebbles are supplied on order and at an additional
charge.
Sizes
Check opening dimensions of your fireplace before ordering a fire
basket. See the Dimension Charts on our Information Page and/or
on our Mantels details below.
Suitability
of Fuels
Please note that not all baskets are suitable for gas conversion
or for electric fires - if in doubt, please enquire. Please note
the following:
-
The Zen fire basket in our Contemporary Range is designed for
gas only, but the large model can be used for solid fuel by
combining it with the Neon.
-
The Pulse basket in our Period Range cannot be used for solid
fuel.
-
The Cottage and Large Victorian in our Period Range are particularly
good for log burning.
-
The Swans Nest baskets in our Traditional Range will burn the
largest of logs.
Please
Enquire for further advice and information.

be slight variations due to the nature of the casting process. No
allowances have been made for lintels or back fillings which are
an essential part of fireplace installation. If in doubt, please
ask us for advice.

Care&
Maintenance
- STORAGE:
Polished areas should be regularly greased or oiled with a non-flammable
preparation for storage until placed in the working fireplace.
- DISCOLOURATION:
Polished Brass and Cast Iron is not recommended for solid fuel
fires, or some slight discolouration may occur as a result,
though this will not affect the serviceability of the product
- where there is a doubt, we would recommend that you choose
black products for use in solid fuel situations.
- TEMPERING:
New
Cast Iron Fireplaces that are to be used for burning solid fuels
must be gradually tempered by initially burning small fires.
Cast Iron Fires accept no responsibility for any damage incurred
by failure to follow this procedure.
- TILE
CRAZING: Shading and crazing are inherent characteristics
of glazed and ceramic tiles.
- CRACKING
IN MARBLES: It should be understood that many coloured marbles
have inherent hairline cracking, particularly in more "figured"
or highly patterned marbles. Such marbles have a greater need
for reinforcement, repair and filling in one form or another.
Modern fillings, however, can be virtually undetectable and
should in no way be considered as "faults" - this
is in the nature of the material.
- UNIFORMITY
OF PATTERNS: In marble quarrying, considerable variations
in patterning are common, as colours and veining may vary from
one piece to another. For this reason, very close uniformity
of pattern is not always possible, and should not be expected.
Also, for the same reason, sometimes marble has to be in two
or three pieces, and is impossible always to match graining
or to conceal joints.
