Black
Hole Ventilators
"Black
Hole" ventilation products offer a solution to some of the
problems associated with conventional through-the-wall ventilation.
First, they avoid cold air and draughts passing into the room from
outside. Second, they prevent light passing out of the room (hence
"black hole"). Third, they effectively cut out traffic
or other extraneous noises. Fourth, and finally, it prevents insects
and other small vermin entering the house.
All too
often occupiers resort to masking out or blanking off wall ventilators
to stop cold air entering during wintertime. The Black Hole Ventilator
will stop wind blasting in, as its baffled labyrinth slows down
air flow and creates internal vortices thereby reducing draughts
to a minimum.
Stadium
ventilators are easy to fit, but we would strongly advise that you
have a registered CORGI Registered Gas Fitter carry out a spillage
test as a matter of good safe practice.
You can
find a Corgi gas fitter near where you live by visiting their website
at

Ventilators
are all rated in terms of their ability to allow so-called "free
air" to enter as ventilation to a room. Sometimes called "the
effective Free Area" or simply "free area" - they
all mean the same thing - this volume of free area is measured in
square centimetres (sq.cm). Complex and anti-draught ventilators
are measured by the volume of air that they pass, that is, the "effective
free area", and all ventilators should be marked accordingly
with this rating.
In the United Kingdom, British Standards regulations require a ventilation
rating of 5 sq.cm (formerly 4.5 sq.cm) for every kiloWatt above
7 kiloWatts input rating for any room with a gas or solid fuel appliance.
(Please note - "input" rating - not "output").
Most of our inset gas fires are rated below 7 kiloWatts Input and
technically require no additional ventialtion - however, you should
be guided by your registered gas fitter as to you specific requirements.
Non-UK shoppers should consult their local or national regulations
which may differ from British Standards.
